Sometimes we need some time to ourselves and it’s so easy to hand technology over to the kids knowing they will be entertained for hours however it is very hard to control what they are watching or interacting with. They may already have friends that blog and want to do it themselves which is great however you need to keep an eye on things and have the security feature set so that the site is not hacked and sending inappropriate content to them and their friends. If you aren’t that internet savvy yourself you can turn to the links of Blog Schooling which will take you through the process as something you may want to look at yourself.
Social media is growing whether we like it or not and kids now far too early on about Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and Twitch. You can ignore there interest but tell them why i.e when asked by friends why they are not on it they can say they are too busy with family time, sports, crafts or other exciting reasons. Kids can be horrible and just because you don’t want to is not a good enough excuse to stop kids teasing. If you’re dead set against it play games with the children so they have a reason and not a lie.
Kidzworld allows a safe zone for children to explore the net and their friends community knowing that it is moderated. Users can create a personal blog. One positive from letting the kids lose with my laptop is that we have a Mac and so they can easily operate Photobooth and save videos for me to view later, they do not know the log ins for any of the social media accounts and so this allows me to watch back the videos and have an insight into their world. One of the most disturbing videos but one as a Mum I needed to see was this one below.
