I had two IPad Zombies (yes my fault in the first place), I wanted us to do something as a family and something worthwhile. Yes I could sit and play dragons against Disney Princesses which I do humour occasionally but I had a crazy idea we could work on something that could help people. I don’t discuss the many horrors of the world with my children, we also don’t talk politics or religious arguments but they do get told about the natural disasters and the effects that they have on people across the world.
Bella came up with the charity idea as there is a big focus at school for raising funds which is something separately we are doing as not many of you will know what an amazing school that they go to and a lot of fundraising is through people that feel strongly about a cause. If anyone would like to donate to their amazing school a raffle prize for our Xmas raffle that would be amazing and you can ask Mum how to donate direct to the school.
So initially Bella wanted to raise £100 which I asked her to reconsider and come up with a good figure to share across the charities we have selected initially – the next figure was a million. I stupidly said “we’ll struggle, we can’t raise that much”, Bella’s reply was “Mum you said there was no such word as can’t, we need to try”. She is quite correct, it would be easy to raise a million if we had help and that’s where the sharing comes in. The more people that share and read these posts the more influence we have to get sponsorship from companies and they buy advertising space via either an article or logo appearing on our site. Companies get tax relief for donating and by being seen to support a good cause which has public support behind it they are creating a good outlook for themselves.
We will be approaching celebrities in hope to gain items that we can raffle – tickets to be bought through Virgin Giving Money (so Mum has less work to do as kids, hedgehogs and rescue kittens plus website creation is a bit much already), Banksy you’re top of the list mate! If Grandma Mary was around we’ll have done the target by tea time as she knew so many wonderful people in her TV career but she was sadly taken away suddenly and left a huge void.
Bella tells me she remembers Louis being sick with meningitis but she was only 20 months old so not really convinced she does but Mum here will remember it for life. That is the closest I have had to losing my child and I never want to experience anything like that again. My children need to out live me and hopefully they will. I struggle with natural disasters like many others do, many lifes gone and many more that desperately need help. Earthquakes, tsunamis and fires take everything. You can be lucky enough enough to survive with enough money in the bank to carry on and insurance in place to rectify things however there are many that don’t.
I want my children to realise they are blessed as much as we hate the cold winters and disruption the snow can cause we are lucky we are not sat in a hurricane zone, amongst brittle land waiting to catch fire, a war torn country or an earthquake zone. We have fresh water from just turning on a tap and have access to hundreds of different types of food from many stores. I want my children to understand and appreciate and possibly see for themselves that others massively struggle to get clean water and food.
We have so many healthy companies and wealthy kind people in the world, we could technically smash this target set within a few days if people were to share. If that happened it won’t be the end as Bella and Louis will not have learnt a lesson, whilst I keep it fun and they see the reaction I believe my children with their big hearts and attitudes to match may have the chance to do something great.
